Revision as of 20:56, 1 September 2026

NTFZh is a Russian military communications station identified by its distinctive channel marker and associated message traffic.
The station was initially suspected to be operating from the Leningrad Oblast, with early direction-finding estimates placing the transmitter somewhere between Saint Petersburg and Kirov. Further TDoA investigations later suggested a possible location near Lodeynoye Pole (Лодейное Поле), potentially associated with the 334th Radio-Technical Regiment (Military Unit 96848). This attribution remained unconfirmed.
As of 01/09/2026, the suspected transmitter location and associated personnel have been revised. The station is now believed to be operated from the 270th Communications Center (Military Unit 36203) in Nizhny Novgorod (Нижний Новгород), Russia. The station's personnel and organizational attribution have also been updated accordingly. This new attribution should still be considered a working assessment rather than a definitively confirmed identification.
Since the new location, the station started to have different and weird activity such as propaganda, and weird signals, it is also transmitting digital format such as CIS-12 and some modems...

Messages format:
The station transmits several types of military communications, including Monolith and Uzor messages, as well as its own message format.
A typical NTFZh message may follow a structure similar to:
- NTFZh NTFZh (Callsign)
- 52106 (Unit ID)
- 4584 (Frequency)
- LoremIpsum (Coded Message)
- 1730 0308 (Hour and Date " HH:MM - DD:MM")
Where the elements generally correspond to the station identifier, recipient callsign, Russian military unit identifier, operating frequency, message content, and transmission time/date.
Example of a recorded message format:
NTFZh NTFZh 52106 4584 LoremIpsum 1730 0308 (X2) — Priyom
Activities:
Frequencies:
The station has been observed operating on the following frequencies:
3862, 4316, 4584, 4774, 4955, 5071 kHz
The station has also moved to 4844 kHz, where it has been observed relatively frequently.
Signal characteristics:
The NTFZh marker is normally transmitted in USB, occasionally with the carrier suppressed and occasionally with a residual or full carrier characteristic similar to H3E.
The observed modulation uses an approximately 200 × 3500 Hz bandwidth, combined with a very high AGC level. The station uses multiple channel-marker configurations, with the exact marker pattern varying between transmissions and rarely remaining identical.
On some occasions, multiple NTFZh markers have been observed simultaneously on different frequencies, such as 4770 and 4774 kHz.
Activity:
The marker is frequently active, often on a near-daily basis. Actual message traffic is considerably less frequent than the marker transmissions.
Further monitoring and direction-finding observations are required to establish the station's exact location, organizational structure, and relationship to the 270th Communications Center.
The weird connections with NZhTI:
NTFZh has been multiple times having weird connections with NZhTI or The Buzzer, operating on 4625 kHz.
As of July 2026, the station had few activities related to NZhTI, you can take a look at NTFZh:Activity if you want to get more about activities.
You can also take a look at the pictures below of the NZhTI related activities from July 2026:
