SYNK Radio

SYNK Radio is an underground independent audio channel originating in the West Midlands, England. Developed and maintained by Blake, a 17-year-old systems administrator and developer, the station captures the energy of old-school London pirate radio stations by providing high-energy UK bass music tailored for gamers, sim racers, and underground electronic music enthusiasts.

The station broadcasts 24/7 via its digital web feed as well as across the SimTX network on 100.0 MHz FM.

History and Sound Style

Conceived as a tribute to the tower block pirate radio tradition, SYNK Radio omits commercial elements such as adverts, fillers, and speech programming. Utilizing dedicated private server infrastructure, Blake manages the complete broadcasting pipeline, ranging from stream encoding and dynamic level processing to delivery networks.

Rather than featuring live presenters or scheduled talk shows, the station uses continuous broadcast automation to deliver a seamless, high-tempo rotation of underground tracks around the clock.

Broadcasting Setup and SimTX

Alongside direct web browser streaming, SYNK Radio broadcasts across the SimTX virtual FM network on 100.0 MHz FM. The transmission includes full Radio Data System (RDS) support, providing station identification alongside real-time artist and track information directly to virtual vehicle dashboards and software-defined receivers.

Technical Stack

To maintain uptime and audio fidelity, SYNK Radio operates on a custom technical stack:

• Automation Engine: Manages track queuing, dynamic audio leveling, and uninterrupted 24/7 playout.
• SimTX FM Link: Employs GNU Radio to generate an FM stereo feed with synchronized RDS data, piped directly into the SimTX transmission tool.
• Web Audio: Delivers high-bitrate streams directly via the official web interface.
• SYNK API: A public metadata endpoint providing track titles, artists, and live musical data to external applications.
• Discord Integration: A dedicated bot that relays the live stream directly into community voice channels.

Sound and Genres

Heavily influenced by UK sound system culture, SYNK Radio features low-end rhythms and fast breakbeats:

• Jungle and classic breakbeat
• Drum & Bass (rollers, jump-up, liquid)
• UK Garage (2-step, 4x4, speed garage)
• Bassline and underground UK club tracks
